Overview

Rajasthan is easy to love and hard to see quickly. This route follows the colours of its cities: the pink old town of Jaipur, the blue houses beneath Mehrangarh in Jodhpur, the sandstone fort of Jaisalmer that people still live in, and the lakeside palaces of Udaipur.

Between them sit Pushkar's ghats and a night among the dunes of the Thar Desert — the quiet counterpoint to so much architecture.

1. Day 01
   Day 1: Delhi to JaipurJaipur

   Pickup in Delhi and drive to Jaipur (about five hours). Evening in the old city's bazaars.

2. Day 02
   Day 2: Jaipur sightseeingJaipur

   Amber Fort in the morning, then City Palace, Jantar Mantar and a photo stop at Hawa Mahal.

3. Day 03
   Day 3: Jaipur to PushkarPushkar

   Drive to Pushkar. Visit the Brahma temple and watch the evening aarti at the lake.

4. Day 04
   Day 4: Pushkar to JodhpurJodhpur

   Drive to Jodhpur. Afternoon at Mehrangarh Fort and Jaswant Thada, with a walk through the blue old town.

5. Day 05
   Day 5: Jodhpur to JaisalmerJaisalmer

   Drive into the Thar to Jaisalmer. Evening at Gadisar Lake.

6. Day 06
   Day 6: Jaisalmer fort and desertJaisalmer

   Explore Jaisalmer Fort and Patwon ki Haveli, then head to the Sam dunes for a camel ride, sunset and a desert camp evening.

7. Day 07
   Day 7: Jaisalmer to UdaipurUdaipur

   A long drive to Udaipur (we can break it or arrange a flight via Jodhpur on request). Evening by the lake.

8. Day 08
   Day 8: Udaipur and departureUdaipur

   City Palace, Jagdish Temple and a boat ride on Lake Pichola, then transfer to Udaipur airport or station.

Best time to visit

October to March. Winter days are pleasant; desert nights are cold. April to June is very hot.

Jaisalmer to Udaipur is a long drive. Many travellers prefer to break it or fly — tell us your preference.
