Bandhavgarh, Madhya Pradesh
Rocky hills, sal forest and an ancient fort. Bandhavgarh is known for good tiger sighting chances, particularly in the Tala zone.
Kanha, Madhya Pradesh
Large meadows and sal forest make Kanha one of India's most scenic parks. It is also home to the hard-ground barasingha, a deer species brought back from the brink.
Ranthambore, Rajasthan
Tigers against a backdrop of ruins and lakes. It is easy to combine with Jaipur and the Golden Triangle, though it can be busy.
Tadoba, Maharashtra
Reached from Nagpur, Tadoba has built a strong reputation for sightings in recent years.
Jim Corbett, Uttarakhand
India's oldest national park, close to Delhi, with river landscapes and good birding. The Dhikala zone is the most sought after.
Pench and Satpura
Pench is the forest of The Jungle Book stories; Satpura offers walking safaris and canoeing in a quieter setting.
Planning your safari
Core zones in most central Indian parks close during the monsoon, roughly July to September. Permits are released online and sell out early, especially for weekends. Sightings are never guaranteed, but more safaris across different zones improve your chances. Our Madhya Pradesh Jungle Safari combines Kanha and Bandhavgarh for this reason.
