Overview

Kaziranga is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the stronghold of the greater one-horned rhinoceros. Its tall elephant grass, wetlands and forest patches also shelter wild water buffalo, swamp deer, elephants and a strong tiger population.

This short safari trip gives you jeep drives across different ranges of the park, with time among Assam's tea gardens in between.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Guwahati to KazirangaKaziranga

    Pickup at Guwahati and drive to Kaziranga (about four to five hours). Evening at leisure.

  2. Day 2: Kaziranga safarisKaziranga

    Morning jeep safari in the Central range and afternoon safari in the Western range, known for rhino density.

  3. Day 3: Eastern range and tea gardensKaziranga

    Morning safari in the Eastern range, a birding favourite. Afternoon at the orchid park or a tea estate.

  4. Day 4: Departure via GuwahatiGuwahati

    Drive back to Guwahati, with an optional visit to Kamakhya Temple before your flight.

Best time to visit

November to April, when the park is open. February to April offers good visibility as the grass is burnt back.

Kaziranga usually closes from May to October for the monsoon and floods.
Safaris
Safari zones and timings are set by the forest department and can change.
Sightings
Rhino sightings are very common; tigers are present but rarely seen in the tall grass.

Fly into Guwahati (GAU). Jorhat (JRH) is another option.
